MFA Candidate Porsha Olayiwola has been named Boston's next Poet Laureate.

Olayiwola's four-year term will begin on Jan 1, 2019. As Poet Laureate, she will "highlight the literary arts and promote a citywide appreciation for poetry." Olayiwola is the 2014 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion and 2015 National Poetry Slam Champion. She is the co-founder of The House Slam, Boston’s first poetry slam venue, and coaches their award-winning poetry slam team. She also serves as the Artistic Director at MassLEAP, a literary non-profit organization in Massachusetts serving youth artists. Her full-length poetry collection is forthcoming with Button Poetry. 

Kit Haggard's PhotoKit Haggard (MFA '18 and Affiliated Faculty) has become Boston Lit District's Director.

The Boston Literary District is the first of its kind in the country: a cultural district devoted to the literary history of our city, the contemporary writers living and working here, and original programming to support the literary arts. Haggard's fiction has appeared or is forthcoming with The Kenyon Review, Prairie Schooner, Electric Literature, and The Masters Review, among other places. She is the recipient of the St. Botolph Emerging Artists Award, the Rex Warner Prize, and the Nancy Lynn Schwartz Prize for Fiction, and teaches writing at Emerson College and GrubStreet.
